Argentina Acquires 24 F-16 Fighter Jets from Denmark

Buenos Aires, Argentina - The Argentine government has finalized the purchase of 24 F-16 fighter jets from Denmark, marking a significant step in bolstering the country's air defense capabilities. The acquisition signals a commitment to modernizing the military and supporting Argentina's role in regional security.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández and Defense Minister Agustín Rossi officiated at the signing ceremony in Copenhagen, Denmark. The agreement includes the acquisition of 24 F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, spare parts, training, and maintenance support.

The F-16s will replace Argentina's aging A-4R Fightinghawk jets, providing a substantial upgrade in terms of speed, agility, and weapons systems. The first deliveries are expected to commence in 2025.

Minister Rossi emphasized the strategic importance of the F-16 acquisition, stating that "this investment reflects the government's commitment to protecting our sovereignty and ensuring a strong deterrent against potential threats." The jets will also contribute to regional stability and enhance Argentina's participation in joint exercises and peacekeeping operations.

The purchase is the largest military aircraft acquisition by Argentina in decades. It is estimated to have cost around $664 million and is part of a broader modernization program that includes the upgrade of radar systems, naval vessels, and ground forces.
